Hitting high shots

Sometimes you need to get more air on the ball - to clear an obstacle or to enable more spin on the green. Here are some handy tips on how to get height:
- Place the ball further forward in your stance by around an inch or so. This will increase the loft of your club at impact.
- Open the club face slightly, promoting a fade shot. This always gives more height than a draw.
- Hold the club further towards the end of the grip.
- Play with a lot of hands
- Hit at full speed - this gives maximum backspin. You need a good strike to do this.
- Make sure your hands aren't ahead of the clubface at impact. A lively hand action will help this.
- For the ultimate height, open your club face even further, and swing across the target line. This is a risky strategy so plenty of practise is recommended.
