A “LITTLE gem” of a mini golf course has opened at Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa in, Whitchurch, Shropshire.

The Little Gem nine-hole, par three course was officially opened by Albert Minshall, the creator of the popular complex.

Invited guests were treated to a barbeque, giant children’s games and advice from the venue’s professional golfer, Clive Burgess, after Albert opened the third golf course at the venue.

Iain Gray, the general manager of the Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf and Spa, said the course has been designed to encourage juniors to start playing the game as well as for hotel guests.

“Since we already have two popular 18-hole courses called the Emerald and Sapphire, we thought we would continue the theme and call this the Little Gem,” he said.

“We asked golf members and leisure club members along to the launch and it was a great day. “

The Little Gem is perfect for hotel guests who are inexperienced in playing the game or don’t have the time to play 18 holes as well as young golfers who are just learning to give them a flavour of the sport.

“It is extremely beneficial to youngsters to learn the game on a par-three course because it gives them a better understanding of golf as well as not being fazed with having to hit such long shots.

“We have a flourishing junior membership at Hill Valley and we are always keen for more boys and girls to join.

“It is a wonderful mini golf course and the greens will be maintained to a high level.”
