Excellent record will boost Goosen

There aren't many golfers who have as good a record at the US Masters than Retief Goosen. In the last ten years, the South African has notched up seven top-20 finishes with four of them inside the top-three, and that record will give the 42-year old plenty of confidence heading into next month's opening major of the year. After such an impressive record, last year's 38th place finish was something of a disappointment and Goosen will be hoping to bounce back this time around.

With 44 tournament wins under his belt in his stellar career so far Goosen will hope there are still more to come despite not winning a title since March 2009. Last year saw Goosen achieve 11 top-ten finishes without pushing on for the win and that may be a sign that the South African's game is beginning to slide and this year will be his chance to prove those doubters wrong. However, the US Masters betting shows he will have to put in a big effort if he is to challenge.

Goosen has shown in the past that as well as winning tour titles he has the ability to win the big tournaments, his two US Open titles in 2001 and 2004 so far being the highlight of the South African's career to date. With some critics downplaying Goosen's chances of ever again challenging for a major, the 42-year old will have plenty of motivation over the upcoming months to have the last laugh. With the ball-striking ability Goosen has at his disposal, there is always a chance he could pull something out of the bag when it matters and he could be a dark horse.
