The "majors" are golf's marquee events - the four tournaments that go down in history in evaluatiing the best golfers of all time. Jack Nicklaus has 18, Tiger Woods has 14. This year's guessing game is which one Tiger will be back for to mount his charge for Jack's record.
The Masters 2010
Also known as "The US Masters"
Venue: Augusta National Golf Club
Dates: 8 -11 April
Current Holder: Angel Cabrera
Prize: Green Jacket
Notes: The Masters is always played at fabulous Augusta and has the smallest field of all the majors. It's generally considered the most exclusive of events, and tickets are tough to get hold of.
The U.S. Open 2010
Venue: Pebble Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach, California, USA
Dates: 17 - 20 June
Current Holder: Lucas Glover
Prize: U.S. Open Trophy
Notes: The US Open is usually the most difficult event - courses are long, dry and challenging. Weather is rarely a factor, though in 2009 we had some heavy rain. It's usually the job of the British Open to give us bad weather!
The Open Championship 2010
Also known as "The British Open"
Venue: The Old Course, St Andrews, Scotland
Dates: 15 - 18 July
Current Holder: Stewart Cink
Prize: The Claret Jug
Notes: This is the 150th anniversary of the first tournament in golf, and there is no more fitting venue than St Andrews - the home of golf. An historic and memorable event, often for its tendency to throw up surprise winners. 2009 champion Cink was no exception.
Tiger has won the last two opens at the old course - will he be back in time for this one?
PGA Championship 2010
Also known as "The US PGA"
Venue: Whistling Straits, Kohler, Wisconsin, USA
Dates: 12 - 15 August
Current Holder: Y.E Yang
Prize: The Wanamaker Trophy
Notes: Y.E Yang triumphed over Tiger Woods in the 2009 PGA Championship - the first time Woods has lost a lead going into the final round of a major.
